AS English Literature
In Year 12 students study two units: Unit 1: 'Explorations in Prose and Poetry'. This is worth 60% of the total AS marks and is assessed through external examination. They study one prescribed section of poetry and one literary heritage novel and a further linked novel. In the exam they have to write responses to the texts they've studied as well as on some unseen material. Unit 2 'Explorations in Drama' is the coursework element. This is worth 40% of the total AS marks and requires students to study Shakespeare texts and other works of drama. They have to produce two pieces: a creative critical response and an explorative study.
